Message from the Commissioner:
2017 was another great year of accomplishments for the Department of Social Services (DSS). With a continued focus on process improvement, which has become the culture here, staff reached above and beyond to iron out the best ways to provide services to Suffolk’s most vulnerable residents.
The Department received two NACo (National Association of Counties) Achievement Awards in honor of the following innovative customer service enhancements:
- Client Benefits Administration’s “A Government Office Without Walls: E-Apps Unit Supports Electronic Applications for SNAP Benefits”
- Family & Children Services Administration’s “Child Care Eligibility Wizard and Forms Matrix”
The Child Support Enforcement Bureau modernized their file room software which allows them to more effectively and efficiently track their case files. The IT Department migrated the outdated MyFullView backend database to the new SQL Server which improved the system’s overall performance and stability.
The Department’s annual Stand Up for the Homeless event, Toys for Tots drive and Holiday Foster Care party always brings smiles and hope to those in need. These important events are the success of our many dedicated staff with huge hearts.
It is important that I also recognize Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone and the members of the Suffolk County Legislature for their support and appreciation of the Department’s objectives.
Please enjoy our 2017 Annual Report which provides a glimpse into some of the Department’s recent achievements, and thank a DSS worker for a job well done.
