Message from the Commissioner:
In 2016 the Department continued its commitment to deliver services in a more efficient and cost-effective manner to the residents of Suffolk County. Each year, the Social Services staff is encouraged to continuously improve upon service delivery methods. Once again, DSS stepped up to the challenge, and in 2016 several noteworthy continuous improvement initiatives were implemented. For example, the Child Care POET resulted in a number of process improvements in the Child Care Unit. FCSA’s Partnership for Permanency team helped to significantly improve outcomes for children in foster care. Our staff completed the NYS OCFS Language Access Training. Another successful Stand Up For The Homeless event was organized, and we delivered nearly 9,000 toys during the annual Toy for Tots drive.
These accomplishments would not have been possible without the commitment and hard work of the Department’s dedicated 1,425 workers. On a daily basis, the DSS staff upholds the Department’s mission to deliver critical services to the County’s most vulnerable populations, 365 days a year.
It is important that I also recognize Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone and the members of the Suffolk County Legislature for their support and appreciation of the Department’s objectives.
Please enjoy our 2016 Annual Report which provides a glimpse into some of the Department’s recent achievements.
