(Hauppauge, NY-October 15, 2015)  Over the next few weeks over 900 Suffolk County residents will face unemployment and displacement as A&P, which owns Waldbaum’s and Pathmark on Long Island, begins closing stores due to bankruptcy and liquidation.

Today, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced his support of these workers and the Resource Fairs aimed at providing support to the displaced A&P workers, who are also members of the union UFCW/RWDSU. The Resource Fair, which will take place today at the Union Hall of IBEW Local 25 in Hauppauge, will be hosted by the UFCW/RWDSU in partnership with the New York State Department of Labor. Suffolk County Department of Social Services will also participate to provide additional assistance to workers in need.

The Resource Fair, offers help only to displaced A&P workers with resume writing, job applications, job search, health care information and obtaining new skills. A&P workers will also receive in-depth information about how to sign up for programs designed to help them and their families.

“Many of our residents are facing an extremely uncertain time in their lives due to the closure and sale of many of our local Waldbaum’s and Pathmarks and we can only imagine the stress these families are facing,” stated County Executive Steve Bellone. “Suffolk County is proud to be home to one of the Resource Fairs for displaced A&P workers which is assisting in providing the necessary support to these men and women.”
