The Suffolk County parks system is truly one which all county residents can be proud of, as it provides us with quality leisure opportunities from Montauk to Huntington. Our parks department manages over 46,000 acres of parkland, offering a multitude of leisure time pursuits.
Popular activities within the Suffolk County parks system include golfing, camping, horseback riding, swimming, hiking, fishing, outer beach (shoreline) activities, boating, or visiting one of our historic sites such as the Big Duck an all-time favorite.

From the sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean to the rocky coast of the north shore, Suffolk County is world renowned for the beauty of its beaches. With more than 100 public beaches located along nearly 1,000 miles of marine coastline, the county provides abundant scenic and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
Beaches operated specifically by the Suffolk County Department of Parks include Smiths Point Beach in Shirley and Cupsogue Beach in East Moriches, both located on the sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean; Meschutt Beach in Hampton Bays, located on the still waters of Great Peconic Bay; and Sears Bellows Pond in Hampton Bays, a fresh water lake situated within the idyllic environment of the Long Island Pine Barrens.
All Suffolk County park beaches provide lifeguard protection as well as amenities such as restrooms, showers, and food concessions. Activities such as fishing and picnicking, and at some beaches camping and horseback riding, are also allowed.
