Builders and Developers Information
Suffolk County operates several programs to support and encourage the creation of workforce housing. These programs typically require a minimum of 20% of a development's units to be set aside for workforce housing. The County operates two funding programs; the
Acquisition Program
and the Infrastructure Program. Details and applications for these programs are available by clicking on the respective program links. These programs are authorized and governed by Article 36 of the Suffolk County Administrative Code. Click here for the enabling legislation.
The county will also
fast track
through the Suffolk County Department of Health Services and Department of Public Works the processing of developments that provide at least 20% of their units for workforce housing.
Through the Workforce Housing Commission, developers may also seek an endorsement of their development. Click here for the Commission's endorsement guidelines.
The county's purchase of open space through our Save Open Space program may generate development rights that may be used to increase sanitary flow capacity for qualifying workforce housing developments. Click here for more information.
