Francis S. Gabreski Airport is situated on 1,453 acres of land on the southeastern portion of Long Island in the Town of Southampton, in the County of Suffolk. The Village of Westhampton Beach is located to the south of the Airport and the Villages of Quogue and East Quogue are located to the east. The Airport lies between Sunrise Highway to the north and the Long Island Rail Road to the south. The Airport is located approximately 60 miles from Nassau County and 90 miles from New York City. The airport serves general aviation and military Air National Guard Aircraft. It is also an alternate landing site for the NASA Space Shuttle.

Security at the airport is provided by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office seven days a week, 24 hours a day. In addition, the Air National Guard has a security presence on their lease premises around the clock. The Suffolk County Police Department's on site medi-vac helicopter also contributes to police presence on the airport.

The airport maintains a current Airport Security Plan in conformance with the New York State Anti-Terrorism Preparedness Act of 2004 and Transportation Security Administration's "Security Guidelines for General Aviation Airports" dated May 2004. Coordination with Suffolk County Sheriff's Department, Suffolk County Police Department, New York State Police, and Southampton Police Departments make the airport one of the most secure in the State.
