PLEASE NOTE these are job titles within the Department. It does not mean that they are currently available positions that we are recruiting for.

With some exceptions, you must be a County resident to work for Suffolk County Department of Health Services. For further information please call (631) 853-3150.

In addition to titles listed for scheduled examinations, the Civil Service Department has an "open filing" policy. Applications (for other than law enforcement titles) may be filed with Civil Service at any time; candidates need not wait until an examination is announced.

Applications are kept on file until the examination announcement is issued for that title. At that time, candidates who have submitted applications under "open filing" will be notified shortly before test date of the place and time of the examination.

Candidates must notify the Department of Civil Service of any address changes to assure notification of the examination.

Candidates who file for a "training and experience examination" more than six months prior to the last filing date are advised to amend their application to include current information. Candidates are also advised to request from the Department of Civil Service a copy of the official examination announcement which fully describes all the information that must be included in your application. (When critical information is vague or missing, candidates may receive no credit for that part).

The following titles are non competitive or Labor Class and do not require a Civil Service Exam.

Title	Jail Medical Attendant – Non Competitive - No Exam required
Salary & Grade	$1,328.00 bi-weekly / Grade 15 Step 1
Location	Medical Units Riverhead and Yaphank Correctional Facilities
Qualifications	Possession of either a license or limited permit issued by the state of NY to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse

Special Requirements	Must possess, or for those with limited permits, obtain within one year a current registration issued by the State of NY to practice as a Registered Nurse or as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and must maintain a valid registration throughout employment in this title. Depending upon assignment, candidates may be required at the time of appointment and during employment in this title, to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation requirements of this position.

Title	Licensed Practical Nurse - Non Competitive - No Exam Required
Salary & Grade	$1,517.00 bi-weekly / (Grade 14 Step 3) + evening or night differential + split day off differential.
Location	Suffolk County Department of Health Services, John J. Foley Skilled Nursing Facility
Qualifications	Either possession of a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse; or possession of a limited permit issued by New York State to practice as a practical nurse.

Title	Registered Nurse - Non Competitive - No exam required.
Salary & Grade	Grade 19 Salary range $48,337 - $54,621, Step and additional differentials dependent on job location.
Location	Multiple locations including a variety of health care settings: John J. Foley Skilled Nursing Facility, Yaphank, NY; Neighborhood health centers and programs (adult, pediatric, women's health, TB control, immunizations, diabetes education); Medical Units at the Riverhead and Yaphank Correctional Facilities; Methadone clinics.
Qualifications	Either possession of a license issued by the State of New York to practice as a Registered Nurse; or possession of a limited permit issued by New York State to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Continuous Recruitment Positions - Applications are accepted and added continually for the following titles. The following positions are Competitive Job Titles. Title	Clinical Nurse Practitioner - Open Competitive
Salary & Grade	Grade 27 Step 5 $2,846 biweekly

Location	Suffolk County Department of Health Services
Qualifications	(a) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Nursing with specialization in a definite area of practice, and a minimum of two years experience in general clinical nursing including at least one year of experience in the area of specialization ; or (b) Satisfactory completion of a Nurse Practitioner program registered by the New York State Education Department and two years experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

Special Requirements	Possession of a New York State Registered Professional Nurses License. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education. The clinical specialty, relevant to the specific position, will be determined by the department. Location	Based at one of the Bureau of Public Health Nursing District Offices (Bay Shore, or Riverhead); the Bureau is a certified home health agency, long term home health agency and AIDS home care program which focuses on maternal-child, asthma and the frail, ill and elderly.
Qualifications	Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
