Many of the properties open for hiking have been acquired by Suffolk County under innovative land acquisition programs designed to protect undeveloped open space and natural resource areas. There is no charge for hiking in Suffolk County Parks, though hikers should carry with them their Suffolk County Green Key Card. Hikers are required to stay on marked trails only. Plant or animal life may not be disturbed. It is recommended that hikers wear light-colored clothing and check frequently for ticks. Guided trail outings are offered throughout the year by the following organizations:
