During working hours, applicants/recipients can contact this office if they are not satisfied with the way their application or case is being handled. Also for information on Social Services programs.
EMERGENCY SERVICES: (631) 854-9100
Handles all emergencies throughout the County at nights (after 4:30 p.m.), weekends and holidays. The unit typically responds to the following emergencies: child protective referrals (sex abuse, physical abuse, neglect, abandonment, etc...), fuel problems, adult protective crises, and housing needs.

New York Office of Administrative Fair Hearings
For people who believe their case was improperly denied or closed or their benefits were improperly reduced or calculated. It is appropriate to ask for a Fair Hearing upon receipt of an official "Notice of Intent" that specifies the action the Agency intends to take. Persons are encouraged to request a conference with a Supervisor before asking for a fair hearing. The "Notice of Intent" gives the phone number to call for a conference. Conferences can often supply satisfactory explanation of an intended action.

BURIALS: (631) 854-9856
If there are no funds available from private resources, the Department of Social Services covers basic burial costs for Public Assistance recipients, stillborn infants or any other person found dead in the County who is not under the jurisdiction of another social services district. Approval prior to finalization with Funeral Home is required.

Former and current clients can obtain pay-off figures for liens that were taken on their homes when they were receiving Public Assistance.
