Historically, the natural beauty of Suffolk County, Long Island, has attracted a number of production companies and actors. For example, the movie studio Biograph started filming in 1902 in Bay Shore. Some people are surprised to learn that the Keystone Kops had their start in Bay Shore, as did the early "Our Gang" shows. When Rudolph Valentino blazed across the desert in the 1917 motion picture, "The Sheik," he was in reality blazing across the beach at Montauk.

In recent years, there has been a sharp increase nationwide in television and film production that has created more jobs, more revenues and more opportunities than ever before. Now, more than ever, Suffolk County is ideally positioned to serve the film industry. From Gold Coast mansions to ocean vistas, Suffolk County has the locations ideal for your shoot. The Sound Symphony Young Composer Concert Series-The Sound Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce the Young Composers Competition. This competition is for students 18 and under who reside in Suffolk or Nassau county. Two winners will receive cash prizes and the opportunity to have their original composition performed by the Sound Symphony Orchestra!

Greenport Gallery Walk -Whether your passion is painting, graphics, photography, sculpture, ceramics, book arts, drawings, murals, art furniture, or collectibles, you will find it at the  Greenport Gallery Walk.   From June through December on the third Saturday of each month, Greenport's galleries will open their doors from 6-9 PM for an evening of gallery hopping.  Enjoy browsing an historic nautical village, refreshments, and gallery talks while viewing the works of established and emerging local artists.

The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council's Cafe Bald Hill Series presents Simone Torres on Friday, October 10 at 7:30 PM.  Click here for admission and reservation information, as well as information about this talented young singer.

Calling All Artists--The Brookhaven Arts and Humanities Council has two very special exhibits coming up and they may be looking for you!  There will be a Portrait Show from Novemver 10 through December 1; and "Big Stuff" --an exhibit for artists who produce large scale works from December 1 through December 15!
