Pharmacy

Program Overview

The Central Pharmacy, under the administrative guidance of the Public Health Department, furnishes policies and procedures for medications and biologicals and devices in all SuffolkCounty health centers, satellite clinics and programs such as Employee Health and Mental Health. This is accomplished by providing pharmaceuticals, information and support through consultant pharmacy services.

The pharmacy contains a limited supply of pharmaceuticals in stock for emergency preparedness use and has a procedure in place for the rapid procurement of additional supplies in an emergency situation. The pharmacy provides medications to over twelve health center clinics, and supports several Patient Care and Public Health grant medication needs on a daily basis. The pharmacy procedures include safe storage of medication, guidelines for the handling of outdated, recalled and out of use items, medication labeling, patient counseling and drug information in the medical record.
