Fast Drinking Dad Stopped With Children in Back Seat
James E. Santos, arrested Saturday by Deputy Sheriff Mark Scarano for D.W.I. and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, is scheduled to return to court tomorrow, April 15, 2008, in Central Islip.
Santos, of 1 Willow Walk, Patchogue, was stopped on Saturday, April 12th at 4:30 p.m. on South Ocean Avenue in Patchogue. His two children, ages 5 and 2, were unrestrained in the back seat of his 2003 Pontiac. His breath smelled of an alcoholic beverage. On being interviewed, Santos stated in a slurred voice, “I drank four beers in about 45 minutes, I drink fast.”
Santos was arrested and charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Impaired, Driving with a Suspended Registration, and Failure to Use a Child Safety Seat.

was arraigned in First District Court on Sunday and released on his own recognizance pending tomorrow’s court date.
Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco stated, “Children depend on adults to keep them safe. Fortunately, Deputy Sheriff Scarano was there for these children.”
