Advanced Training Contributes to Ketamine Arrests
Over fifty vials of Ketamine were taken off the street today following the arrest of three subjects for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance by SuffolkCounty Deputy Sheriff Mark Scarano.
Cristhyan Guerrero, d.o.b. 4/5/82, of Patchogue, was operating a 1996 Nissan with two passengers - Jonathan Lascano, d.o.b. 9/30/86, of East Moriches and Anthony Llanes, d.o.b. 7/7/83, of Oakdale, when Deputy Sheriff Scarano stopped the vehicle on Woodside Avenue in North Patchogue for a Vehicle & Traffic violation. Scarano immediately smelled marijuana on approaching the vehicle. Scarano performed several tests at the scene aimed at recognizing drug impairment, having recently completed “Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement” training.
Initial search of the subjects revealed multiple hypodermic needles. Following Sheriff’s K-9 response to the scene and complete search, over 50 vials of Ketamine, cocaine, marijuana, Oxycodone, a large quantity of cash and hypodermic needles were found.
All three subjects were arrested at the scene. Multiple charges included: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Impaired/Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. All individuals are expected to be arraigned tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip.
Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco stated, “Updated training is an integral part of our enforcement efforts.”
