Road Rage Endangers 8-Year Old

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Juan Uvera, d.o.b. 11/20/77, of Amityville, NY, after Uvera chased another vehicle, attempting to force it off of the roadway, westbound on Sunrise Highway.  Uvera’s 8-year-old child was a passenger in Uvera’s vehicle, a 2005 Chevy van, during the incident.

Deputies were notified via a 911 call from Matthew Byank, who was being chased at speeds over 85 m.p.h., with Uvera making multiple attempts to force his vehicle from the roadway.  Deputies Bing and Kern stopped Uvera on the Sunrise Highway in Islip where he was arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st, Reckless Driving, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Uvera’s son and an adult female passenger were escorted to their residence.

Uvera is to be arraigned in First District Court this afternoon. Prior arrest records show multiple violations of the Immigration and Nationalities Act.

Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco stated, “Aggressive driving cannot be tolerated.  Mr. Uvera will now be held accountable for his blatant disregard not only for his son’s safety, but for everyone on the road last evening.”
