Demographics
|
The 4th
Legislative District is located in the central- eastern portion of
Suffolk County encompassing the central section of Brookhaven Town. The
district includes Selden, Centereach, Farmingville, and parts of Coram,
Lake Ronkonkoma, Ronkonkoma, Medford and Port Jefferson Station. It
consists of fifty-one (51) election districts with approximately 80,000
residents and 43,600 registered voters.

Biography
|
Legislator Beedenbender has lived in the 4th
Legislative District for over 20 years. He grew up in Selden,
and now resides in Centereach. He is a product of the Middle
Country School District, and a graduate of Newfield High School.
Following high school, Brian received his B.A. in Political
Science and Public Administration from James Madison University
in Virginia. After JMU, he attended the University of Delaware,
where he received his M.A. in Political Science and
International Relations.
After graduation, Brian began working for County
Executive Steve Levy as a Legislative Aide and then County
Executive Assistant for Intergovernmental Relations. For 3 ½
years he helped the County Executive craft his general fund tax
cut budgets, draft legislation, and instill smart government
principles throughout Suffolk County.

Accomplishments

In his
three and a half years working in the County Executive’s Office, Brian
helped to reform Suffolk County Government, draft good government
legislation, and craft general fund tax cut budgets. As your Legislator,
he will carry that work even further by proposing legislation that will
make Suffolk County government a more transparent and accessible
government, at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayers.

up county car, county cell phone, and 2009 salary increase, in order
to save tax dollars

Co-Sponsored and passed legislation to reconstruct and enhance
Nicolls Road

Sponsored a Capital Budget Program for safety enhancements and
traffic calming on Patchogue-Holbrook Road from the LIE to Portion
Road

Sponsored and passed Fair Business Practices legislation aimed at
leveling the playing field for licensed businesses in Suffolk County

Sponsored and passed legislation to reform the process in which
County government leases space to house various departments and
offices, in order to save tax dollars

Organized and sponsored a Senior Citizens Service Expo to educate
seniors on the various services available to them from local, State,
and Federal government

Sponsored legislation to allow for deployed military servicepersons
and their families to regain their home from Suffolk County if it is
lost to tax default

Sponsored and secured grant funding for the Suffolk County Council
of Veterans of Foreign Wars

Sponsored and secured grant funding for the Middle Country Smart
Growth Coalition in order to further plan and promote smart growth
initiatives in the Middle Country area

Services in order to expand educational and recreation opportunities
for students

Sponsored and secured grant funding for Middle Country Girls Youth
Lacrosse in order to expand educational and recreation opportunities
for student-athletes

Sponsored and passed legislation declaring May 18 – May 24, 2008 as
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Awareness Week in Suffolk County

Lobbied New York State representatives to restore aid and increase
funding for the Middle Country School District

Provided Middle Country and Sachem School Districts with the County
specialized equipment inventory in order to encourage equipment
sharing and taxpayer cost savings

Formally requested that the Space Management Steering Committee
search for municipally owned space to move the legislative district
office out of leased space and into free space, in order to save tax
dollars

Sponsored and secured grant funding for Selden-Centereach Little
League in order to expand educational and recreation opportunities
for student-athletes

Sponsored and secured grant funding for the Right Start Foundation
in order to expand the financial literacy education program for
students

program to help Suffolk residents stay warm in the winter months

Services to seek notices from towns and villages when a home is
condemned in order to help children that may otherwise become
homeless through no fault of their own
