The Suffolk County Police Department has achieved status as an accredited law enforcement agency. The New York State Accreditation Program provides formal recognition that an agency meets or exceeds general expectations of quality in law enforcement. The New York State Accreditation Program requires the application of 130 standards, which address agency organization, fiscal management, personnel practices, training, and tactical approaches to critical incidents. Today the Suffolk County Police Department is the largest accredited municipal police agency in New York State.
