The Office of the Chief of Patrol
The Patrol Division is headed by the Chief of Patrol, who is responsible for all patrol and related services in the Suffolk County Police District.  It is the function of the Patrol Division to enforce all applicable state and local laws, prevent crime, deter criminal activity, apprehend offenders, aid in the recovery and return of stolen property, identify and report hazardous conditions, preserve the public peace and reduce fear in the community.  The division provides services vital to public safety including emergency services, traffic control, accident investigation and assistance to other state and local agencies.  Patrol responsibilities are distributed to 7 major geographic areas called precincts.


Chief of Patrol - Chief of Patrol Nicholas Mango holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the PERF Senior Management Institute for Police. He joined the Suffolk County Police Department in 1973. He has been the Assistant Chief of Detectives, Assistant Chief of Patrol, the Deputy Chief of Internal Affairs, the Deputy Chief of Patrol and Commanding Officer of the 6th Precinct, Marine Bureau, Juvenile and Missing Persons Section, and the Narcotics Enforcement Team.



Assistant Chief of Patrol - Assistant Chief Patrick Cuff holds a Masters degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.  He joined the Suffolk County Police Department in 1983.  Assistant Chief Cuff has been assigned to the Office of the Chief of Patrol since June of 2009.  He previously held the rank of Deputy Chief of Patrol.

Deputy Chief of Patrol - Deputy Chief Robert Cassagne has been a member of the Suffolk County Police Department since 1981. He holds both a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Professional Studies degree from Long Island University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Deputy Chief Cassagne’s previous assignments include Commanding Officer of the 1st and 2nd Precincts, the Narcotics/Organized Crime Bureau, the Marine Bureau, the Highway Patrol Bureau, the Second Squad Detectives, and the 3rd Precinct Crime Section. He has been assigned as Deputy Chief of Patrol since November of 2009.

Deputy Chief of Patrol - Deputy Chief John Meehan has been a member of the Suffolk County Police Department since 1973.  He holds both a Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Masters degree from SUNY Empire in Labor and Policy and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.  Deputy Chief Meehan’s previous assignments include Commanding Officer of the 7th Precinct, the Narcotics/Organized Crime Bureau, and the Highway Patrol Bureau. He has been assigned as Deputy Chief of Patrol since November of 2009.
