Office of the Police Commissioner |
The Police Commissioner has jurisdiction and control over government, administration, disposition and discipline of the Police Department and its members. The Police Commissioner ensures that the services provided to the community by the Department meet the highest standards of excellence.

Police Commissioner – Commissioner Richard Dormer holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the New York Institute of Technology, and has attended the FBI National Academy and the Kennedy School of Government. His first assignment as a Suffolk County Police Officer in 1963 was in the Fourth Precinct in Smithtown. He moved up the ranks, commanding a wide spectrum of commands in the three divisions. He retired in 1993 at the rank of Chief. He managed a private security company and taught police related subjects at a local college until January, 2004 when he was nominated by the County Executive and confirmed by the Legislature as the eleventh Police Commissioner of the Suffolk County Police Department |

Office of Homeland Security and Anti-Terrorism
|
This office coordinates all Counter Terrorism and Homeland Security initiatives within the Police Department. Its personnel work closely with commands in each division to ensure that the Department’s comprehensive terrorism strategy is implemented, concentrating on prevention, detection and deterrence of terrorist acts through intelligence gathering and dissemination. The office acts as the primary Homeland Security liaison with all government agencies including the Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services, Suffolk County Department of Health, United States Department of Homeland Security, New York State Office of Homeland Security, as well as all State, County and local law enforcement agencies.

Deputy Chief, Commanding Officer, Office of Homeland Security and Anti-Terrorism – Deputy Chief Mark White holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Long Island University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He joined the Suffolk County Police Department in 1981. He has been the Commanding Officer of the 5th Precinct, Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau, and the In-Service Training Section of the Police Academy. |

| This bureau is responsible for the administration and supervision of the District Attorney Section and the Criminal Intelligence Section. The Organized Crime Bureau is also responsible for all pro-active investigations of alleged terrorist related activities. |
