This Saturday the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will introduce the Smart Start Program in Suffolk. The program is modeled after the national Every 15 Minutes Program aimed at educating the public, particularly young drivers, about the dangers of drunk and distracted driving. Every fifteen minutes someone in the United States dies from an alcohol related traffic collision. At this event we will be working in partnership with Gersh Academy Driving School, local fire departments and ambulance companies simulating an alcohol related crash with fatal consequences. It will be an emotionally charged experience aimed at teaching young drivers about their vulnerability; the grief created when people are killed and the loss experienced by those left behind.

Event date, time and location:

Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., 358 Hoffman Lane, Hauppauge, NY 11788
