TRAGEDY AVERTED Just before midnight on Thursday, 911 calls reported a reckless driver traveling at a high rate of speed westbound in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway in Sayville. By 12:05 a.m. Ralph Cerullo was in custody facing multiple charges including D.W.I., Reckless Driving and Reckless Endangerment and Unlawfully Fleeing.

ILLEGAL GUN AMNESTY PROGRAM The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will be closing out its Gun Buy Back Program for 2010. The program facilitates the recovery and destruction of illegal handguns and is funded through a grant from the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services. Participants will be able to turn in illegal handguns at the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Pistol License Section, 100 Center Drive, Riverhead, New York, (631) 852-2233, no questions asked, and receive a Visa gift card in return. Illegal handguns would include handguns that you do not have a license to possess, i.e. given to by a family member, left to you by a relative that has passed away, or a friend that may have moved out of state. LEANDRA'S LAW DWI At 7:50 a.m. on Sunday Deputy Sheriff Vincent Aparicio stopped Alicia Spradley, d.o.b. 11-19-83, of Quogue after she cut off a motorist while driving a black Nissan Maxima on Sunrise Highway between exits 62 and 63. On speaking to Ms. Spradley she appeared to be intoxicated. Also in the vehicle were Rebecca Sullivan and her two children, ages 5 and 7.
