Campaign Safe and Sober is a nationwide initiative, which runs from August 18th through Labor Day, in an effort to remove drunk drivers from our roadways. Over the past weekend, Sheriff's Deputies made two D.W.I. arrests to kick off the campaign and are continuing their efforts with yet another arrest.

DEADBEAT DADS ARRESTED Deputy Sheriff Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad conducted a warrant sweep of support delinquents during the first half of May to coincide with Mother’s Day celebrations.  The sweep area covered Nassau, Suffolk, and New York City.  In the end twenty-six warrants were executed. ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL Yesterday at approximately 1:00 p.m. at the Riverhead 7-11 on Old Country Road, Deputy Sheriffs Howard and Patterson observed a 1997 green Chevy parked with the engine running, windows closed, and a woman slumped over the wheel.  As the Deputy Sheriffs approached the vehicle they noticed that a 5-week-old baby had been placed unsecured in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle.  The Deputies attempted to wake the operator of the vehicle, Rabia DiMarcantonio, age 33, of Riverhead, by banging on the car windows.  Ms. DiMarcantonio, who had been sound asleep, woke up and opened the window. Massage Anyone? On March 20, 2007 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Etheridge, operating a marked Sheriff’s unit westbound on the LIE near Exit 63, noticed a 2006 Hyundai speeding and operating in an erratic manner, in and out of traffic.  Deputy Etheridge was able to stop the vehicle on the shoulder of the expressway and ask the operator for his driver’s license and registration.  Mr. Harold Walker, age 41 of Holtsville, New York, surprised Deputy Etheridge by stating, “Could you give me a break on my suspensions because I’m on my way to get a massage in Queens”. DeMarco and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer once again wish to announce an enhanced enforcement effort targeting handicapped parking violations in Suffolk County. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers Most Wanted Captured by Sheriff’s Office Due to the efforts of Correction Officer Investigators of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, Franchille Burgos, age 26, one of Suffolk County’s Crime Stoppers most wanted, was arrested yesterday afternoon at 198 Farrington Avenue in Bay Shore. Sheriff Sweeps Up Suffolk’s Domestic Violence Offenders
In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco completed a warrant sweep of 28 fugitives who were wanted on domestic violence related charges. According to the U.S Department of Justice over 1 million people are victims of domestic violence every year and Suffolk County is no different with thousands of victims annually. Read More...

OPERATION SAVE NABS INTOX BOATER Last night, Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard Station, Shinnecock, established a BWI check point on both sides of the Shinnecock Canal. At approximately 10:30 PM, Mr Joseph Longnecker, age 42 of 4 Ashwood Ct. in Southampton, was piloting his 30-foot vessel, returning from a night of fishing two miles out into the Atlantic, when he entered into the canal.
