Taking the Road to Eliminate Health Disparities

County Executive Steve Bellone and Health Commissioner Dr. James Tomarken announced today Suffolk County’s tenth annual minority health conference. Entitled “Taking the Road to Eliminate Health Disparities,” this year’s conference will focus on the many faces of mental health and wellness.

Topics will include mental health issues in:  immigrant populations, behavioral emergencies and the first responder, substance abuse, and spirituality as it relates to mental health. The conference will feature a participatory scene featuring law enforcement, mental health practitioners, emergency medical technicians, hospital personnel and treatment agency personnel.

All topics have been pre-approved for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for all levels of EMS providers, and Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC) education units are also available.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
