COUNTY EXECUTIVE BELLONE ANNOUNCES FREE FLU CLINICS AVAILABLE TO RESIDENTS

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Health Commissioner Dr. James Tomarken today announced that the county will offer free influenza immunization to residents. The announcement follows Governor Cuomo’s declaration of a public health emergency in New York. All residents six months of age and older who have not already obtained their flu shots are urged to do so as soon as possible.

“The health and wellness of our residents is of utmost importance,” said County Executive Bellone. “We thank Governor Cuomo for providing the funding to allow us to increase access to flu vaccines to help save lives.”

“We ask residents to obtain immunization against the flu to protect not only themselves but others who may be especially vulnerable to the flu, especially infants who are too young to be immunized, pregnant women, older residents and those with other health conditions that make them more vulnerable to flu,” said Dr. Tomarken.

Flu shots are available for residents who are age two and older at local pharmacies and for everyone age six months and older at pediatricians’ and healthcare providers’ offices.
