COVID-19 CASE UPDATE - January 2, 2022

Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 on January 2, 2022. Last updated January 1,  2022

COVID-19 Vaccine Information, for January 1

*Negative numbers reflect doses previously recorded as first doses corrected to be recorded additional/booster doses

  • 1,164,874 people have received at least one vaccine dose, a decrease* of 348.
  • 1,048,655 people have completed their vaccine series, an increase of 50.
  • 78.6% of the total population of 1,481,093 has received at least one dose.
  • 91.5% of the population ages 18 and older has received at least one dose.
  • 70.8% percent of the total population is fully vaccinated.
  • 83.5% of the population ages 18 and older is fully vaccinated.
  • 81.3% of the population ages 12 and older is fully vaccinated.
  • 75.4% of the population ages 5 and older is fully vaccinated.

  • Walk-in vaccination clinics are offering COVID vaccines to Suffolk County residents who are age 5 and older as well as booster doses to all who are eligible. Appointments are recommended. Medical practitioners and EMS are on-site at all times to answer questions and tend to concerns. Click here for locations and times and parental consent forms.   • 21,075 COVID-19 tests were administered
  • 6,446,239 total tests have been administered since March 2020
  • 5,918 new cases were reported
  • 399.6 cases per 100k;  333.0 on a 7-day average
  • 332,956 total cases have been reported since March 2020
  • 28.1% tested positive in Suffolk County; 25.1% positive on a 7-day average
  • 27.1% tested positive on Long Island; 24.2% positive on a 7-day average

  • COVID Antibodies: On January 1, 2022: 103,272 individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 tested positive for antibodies; 431,528 total were tested for antibodies.

  • 13 fatalities:
  • 3,826 fatalities since March 2020

Hospitalization, Suffolk County, January 1, 2022

  • 737 individuals were hospitalized, an increase of 28 in 24 hours
  • 136 were new admissions
  • 113 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an increase of 6 in 24 hours
  • 53  patients were in the ICU and intubated
  • 117 were discharged since the last report
  • 18,868 have been discharged since March 22, 2020
