Aerial Mosquito Larvae Treatment Scheduled for June 30 - July 1, 2022

The Suffolk County Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control plans to treat parts of the marshes named below by helicopter to control mosquito larvae. If weather conditions prevent completion, the work will be continued on the next suitable day.

DPW’s Division of Vector Control is responsible for controlling mosquito infestations that are of public health importance. Vector Control crews regularly inspect marshlands that have historically produced large numbers of developing larval mosquitoes and treat the areas that have shown recent activity. Sections of marshland are treated by helicopter to prevent the densely clustered larvae from emerging as adult mosquitoes that have the ability to fly miles from the marshes into communities. According to the Vector Control and Wetlands Management Long-Term Plan, treatment of mosquito larvae reduces the risk of transmission of mosquito-borne diseases among the public as well as the need to control mosquito populations in residential neighborhoods.

Time and date of the application: June 30 through July 1 from 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
