Covid-19 Case Update March 8, 2021 4:30pm


Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 on March 8, 2021. Last updated March 7, 2021.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information -  As of March 8, 2021 

Suffolk County

  •          269,166 people have received at least one vaccine dose, an increase of 6,422
  •          18.2% of the total population of 1,481,093 has received at least one dose
  •          137,886 people have completed their vaccine series, an increase of 1,629

New York State and Long Island

  • 1,020,660 was the weekly allocation of COVID-19 vaccine first doses fully delivered to New York providers during the week 3/1-3/7.
  • 480,685 first doses have been received by vaccine providers on Long Island; 90% were administered
  • 774,570 first and second doses have been received by vaccine providers on Long Island; 87% were administered
  • Note: Suffolk County comprises 52% of the Long Island region’s population of 2,839,436 and 7.6% of New York State’s population of approximately 19.4 million.

COVID-19 Viral Testing- On March 7, 2021:

  • 12,801 COVID-19 tests were administered
  • 3,029,560  total tests have been administered since March 2020
  • 552 new cases were reported
  • 167,049  total cases have been reported since March 2020
  • 5.5% of those tested since March have been confirmed positive for COVID-19
  • 4.3% tested positive in Suffolk County yesterday; 4.1% positive on a 7-day average
  • 4.5% tested positive on Long Island yesterday; 4.3% positive on a 7-day average

Antibody Testing Suffolk County

  • 41,574  individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 have tested positive for antibodies
  • 347,446 total were tested for antibodies

Fatalities, Suffolk County

  • 1 fatality
  • 3,126 total fatalities

Hospitalization, Suffolk County, data from March 7, 2021

  • 390  individuals were hospitalized, an increase of 18 in 24 hours
  • 31  were new admissions
  • 90 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an increase of 1 in 24 hours
  • 54 patients were in the ICU and intubated
  • 21 were discharged since the last report
  • 12,109 have been discharged since March 22,2020

Hospital Capacity, Suffolk County

  • 3,158  hospital beds, 877 available, 28%
  • 433 ICU beds, 113 available, 26%
