Covid-19 Case Update May 17, 2021 4:15pm

 Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 on May 17, 2021. Last updated May 16, 2021

COVID-19 Vaccine Information - As of May 17, 2021  

  •         762,114 people have received at least one vaccine dose, an increase of 2,441
  •         51.5% of the total population of 1,481,093 has received at least one dose
  •         63.8% of the population ages 18+ has received at least one dose  
  •         624,146 people have completed their vaccine series, an increase of 3,669
  •         42.1% percent of the total population of 1,481,093 have completed their vaccine series
  •         Demographics can be found on the NYSDOH vaccine tracker
  •         417,070 was the weekly allocation of COVID-19 vaccine first doses fully delivered to New York providers during the week 5/10-5/16.
  •         Walk-in vaccination clinics are offering vaccine to residents who are age 12+. No appointment is needed. Medical practitioners and EMS are on-site at all times to answer questions and tend to concerns. Click here for locations and times.   •         If you are confined to your home and wish to receive your COVID-19 vaccination, call 311. We will take your name and you will be called to schedule your free vaccination at home.

COVID-19 Viral Testing- On May 16, 2021

  • 7,936 COVID-19 tests were administered
  • 4,017,311 total tests have been administered since March 2020
  • 86 new cases were reported
  • 199,592 total cases have been reported since March 2020
  • 5.0% of those tested since March 2021 have been confirmed positive for COVID-19
  • 1.1% tested positive in Suffolk County yesterday; 1.0% positive on a 7-day average
  • 1.1% tested positive on Long Island yesterday; 1.0% positive on a 7-day average

Antibody Testing Suffolk County

  • 54,154 individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 have tested positive for antibodies
  • 373,290 total were tested for antibodies

Fatalities, Suffolk County

  •          0 fatalities
  • 3,381 total fatalities

Hospitalization, Suffolk County, data is from May 15, 2021

  • 124 individuals were hospitalized, a decrease of 3 in 24 hours

6 were new admissions

  • 30 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an increase of 2 in 24 hours
  • 15 patients were in the ICU and intubated
  • 8 were discharged since the last report
  • 14,415 have been discharged since March 22,2020

 Hospital Capacity, Suffolk County

  • 3,126 hospital beds, 949 available, 30%
  • 433 ICU beds, 130 available, 30%
