Suffolk County Department of Social Services today released all quarterly reports that have been submitted to the full body of the Suffolk County Legislature since the adoption of Resolution No. 183-2019 in 2019.
The Department also released the CPS and CPPS staffing trends report from 2012-2019. A copy of the historical data pertaining to CPS staffing levels, average case load per worker, and annual number of cases that come into the county for allegations of abuse can be found attached.
From December 2016 through December 2017, the annual number of CPS cases that came into the County for allegations of abuse increased steadily. During this same period, case worker staffing levels within Child Protective Services increased from 95 investigative field workers to 108. By the close of 2019, CPS investigative case worker staffing levels were at a 20-year high with 110 investigative field workers. As a result of the new hires, there was a corresponding drop in caseload per worker – from a high of 19.4 cases in 2016 to 12.2 cases by the end of 2019.
In the latest monthly report issued by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services “Percentage of Workers with More Than 15 CPS Investigations”, Suffolk County ranked in the top third of the state. A copy of that report can be found attached.
