Bellone Visits Kings Park Chamber of Commerce

(Kings Park, NY-January 24, 2013) Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone was on hand at VFW Post 5796 as the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce to induct its new officers for the 2013 year. After being introduced by Chamber President Charlie Garner, Bellone addressed the group of 50, highlighting the county government’s role in facilitating the needs of Long Island’s business community.

One main topic of Bellone’s remarks was the importance of efficiency, accountability and responsibility in government, as it works to facilitate the growth of prosperous communities. Citing the John J. Foley Nursing Facility as an example of government inefficiencies costing  millions in taxpayer money, he advocated for the sale of the facility to a private sector operator more suited to the administration of the facility.

The County Executive also took the opportunity to outline his regional economic development and transportation plan, Connect Long Island, which focuses on creating sustainable long-term economic growth by supporting transit-oriented developments and building a 21st century transportation infrastructure that connects them to Suffolk’s existing educational and research institutions. He singled out Kings Park as a community that could be a major component in the plan, as it has a great downtown with many assets, and sits between the Cold Spring Harbor Lab and Stony Brook University.
