Statement From Suffolk County Executive Bellone on one Year Anniversary of Parkland Shooting

“As we reflect on the tragedy that shook our nation exactly one year ago, we remember and honor the 17 lives that were taken too soon and the families and loved ones who must live with this heartbreak every day. Students across the nation have mobilized, speaking up for themselves and what they believe in.

“While this next generation of leaders have been demanding action, New York State has stepped up to the plate, enacting new measures that seek to combat gun violence by limiting the possessions of firearms on school grounds, putting extreme risk protections in place and enhancing background checks. We will continue to fight for the safety of our students, teachers, and administrators by working to prevent these horrific tragedies from ever occurring in the first place.”
