Suffolk County Executive Bellone Announces 2020 Parks Permits are now Available at Select Suffolk County Facilities

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone today announced that permits for a variety of outdoor activities at Suffolk County Parks are now available for purchase at parks locations across the County.  Permits are required for activities such as horseback riding, camping, night fishing, outer beach access and more.

 

"After another year of increased attendance across all of our county parks, we are gearing up for a successful 2020 season," said County Executive Steve Bellone. "Our parks have something for everyone to enjoy, and with permits now on sale, I encourage all residents to take advantage of what our parks have to offer."

 

Permits available for purchase include:

 

Suffolk County Outer Beach Access Season Permit

Smith Point, Cupsogue, Montauk, Shinnecock East, Cedar Point, Northwest Harbor and Orient Point County Parks offer outer beach access opportunities to off-road vehicles. The Recreational Vehicle Use permit includes access to designated beaches as well as night fishing in designated parks.

 

The permit costs $100 a year for Green Key Holders and $250 a year for non-residents. A driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proper equipment are required to purchase a permit. Permits are available for purchase at West Sayville, Blydenburgh, Cathedral Pines, Cedar Point, Indian Island, Sears Bellows and Smith Point County Parks. In season, they are also available at Montauk, Cupsogue and Shinnecock East County Parks.

 

Outer Beach Access Daily Permit

Daily Outer Beach Access permits allows for one day of outer beach access at Smith Point, Cupsogue, Montauk, Shinnecock East, Cedar Point, Northwest Harbor, Orient Point County Parks.

 

The permits cost $33 a day for Green Key Holders and $44 a day for non-residents. A driver's license, vehicle registration, and proper equipment are required to purchase a permit.

 

Night Fishing Permit

Night Fishing permits for Smith Point, Shinnecock East, Charles F. Altenkirch, Orient Point County Park, Cupsogue, Shinnecock Canal, Cordwood Landing, Lake Ronkonkoma, and Montauk County Park allow for access to parking from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, hours parking is typically closed, to fisherman.

 

The permits cost $20 a year for Green Key Holders and $45 a year for non-residents. A driver’s license and a fishing license or registration are required to purchase a permit, which are available for purchase at West Sayville, Blydenburgh, Cathedral Pines, Cedar Point, Indian Island, Sears Bellows and Smith Point County Park. In season, they are also available at Montauk, Cupsogue and Shinnecock East County Parks.

 

Horseback Riding Season Permit

Horseback riding season permits for those who wish to bring their own horse is permitted on marked trails at Bohemian Equestrian Center, Cathedral and Prosser Pines County Parks, Manorville Hills, Montauk, Southaven and West Hills County Parks. 

 

The permits cost $35 a year for a Green Key Holder or $70 for a Green Key Holder family up to four permits and $55 a year for non-residents or $110 a year for a non-resident family up to four permits. Permits are available for purchase at West Sayville, Blydenburgh, Cathedral Pines, Cedar Point, Sears Bellows and Smith Point. Additionally, in season, they are also available at Montauk.

 

Horseback Riding Daily Permit

Horseback riding daily permits for those who wish to bring their own horse are also available for purchase. The permits cost $10 a day for Green Key Holders and $15 a day for non-residents.

 

Group Beach Horseback Riding Permit

Group Beach Horseback Riding Permits are offered for those who wish to bring their own horse and ride on Smith Point Outer Beach from Labor Day through May 15th. The permits cost $70 a day per group and a Green Key is required. Contact West Sayville for more information 631-854-4949.

 

Metal Detector Permit

Metal detecting is permitted at Montauk County Park, Cedar Point County Park, Meschutt Beach County Park, Shinnecock East County Park, Charles F. Altenkirch County Park, Cupsogue Beach County Park and Smith Point County Park.

 

The permits cost $35 a year for Green Key Holders and $55 a year for non-residents. Permits are available for purchase at Blydenburgh, Cathedral Pines, Cedar Point, and Smith Point. Additionally, in Season, they are available at Montauk, Cupsogue and Shinnecock East County Park.

 

Wood Removal Permit

The Wood Removal Permit allows for the removal of wood from downed or fallen trees that park staff would have had to remove. Depending on the situation, some of the wood available is already cut or some may need cutting according to specific needs.

 

The permits cost $25 a cord for Green Key Holders and wood removal requires both a Park Supervisor’s permission and a Green Key.

 

Youth Group Camping

Year-round camping for scouting and organized youth groups in available at Cathedral Pines, Indian Island and West Hills County Parks. In season, from April 1st to Veterans Day, camping is available at Blydenburgh, Cedar Point and Sears Bellows County Parks.  An organized group reservation and insurance is required. 

 

Fees include, $4.00 per person. There are two shelters available at West Hills County Park for $72.00 per night plus a $4.00 per person, per night fee. Additionally, the Fire Circle at West Hills County Park is $4 per person, per day. 

 

Camping

Reservations for Suffolk County Campgrounds can be made online 90 days in advance of the first night of camping. Camping is available at Indian Island Campground year- round for self-contained campers, Smith Point County Park Campgrounds open March 1st and are currently available for reservation, Blydenburgh, Cathedral Pines, Cedar Point, Cupsogue, Montauk, Sears Bellows, Shinnecock East and Southaven Campgrounds April 1st and are currently available for reservations. A Green Key is required to access the online reservation system.
