Covid-19 Case Update March 17, 2021 5:20pm

Suffolk County reported the following information related to COVID-19 on March 17, 2021. Last updated March 16, 2021.

COVID-19 Vaccine Information -  As of March 17, 2021 

Suffolk County

  •         336,440 people have received at least one vaccine dose, an increase of 10,734
  •         22.7% of the total population of 1,481,093 has received at least one dose
  •         179,791 people have completed their vaccine series, an increase of 5,390
  •         Demographics can be found on the NYSDOH vaccine tracker
  •         455,365 was the weekly allocation of COVID-19 vaccine first doses fully delivered to New York providers during the week 3/8-3/14.

COVID-19 Viral Testing- On March 16, 2021:

  • 16,783 COVID-19 tests were administered
  • 3,158,292 total tests have been administered since March 2020
  • 720  new cases were reported
  • 172,670 total cases have been reported since March 2020
  • 5.5% of those tested since March have been confirmed positive for COVID-19
  • 4.3.% tested positive in Suffolk County yesterday; 4.4% positive on a 7-day average
  • 4.4% tested positive on Long Island yesterday; 4.5% positive on a 7-day average

Antibody Testing Suffolk County

  • 42,939 individuals not previously tested for COVID-19 have tested positive for antibodies
  • 351,789 total were tested for antibodies

Fatalities, Suffolk County

  • 6 fatalities
  • 3,176 total fatalities

Hospitalization, Suffolk County, data from March 16, 2021

  • 404  individuals were hospitalized, an increase of 3 in 24 hours
  • 49  were new admissions
  • 80 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an increase of 3 in 24 hours
  • 46 patients were in the ICU and intubated
  • 41 were discharged since the last report
  • 12,467 have been discharged since March 22,2020

Hospital Capacity, Suffolk County

  • 3,157  hospital beds, 708 available, 22%
  • 433 ICU beds, 96 available, 22%
