On March 4, 2015, a 23 year old male from Rocky Point was arrested by Deputy Sheriffs of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office after crashing his vehicle into a marked Sheriff’s patrol vehicle that was on a traffic stop.

Deputy Sheriff Sergeant Scott Zimbler was conducting a traffic stop on Route 25A near Miller Place Road in Miller Place. Sergeant Zimbler was seated in his Sheriff’s unit when a 1999 Plymouth Neon operated by Vincent Rudolf side-swiped the driver’s side of the Sheriff’s vehicle causing damage. The driver continued a short distance on Route 25A until he was pulled over by Sergeant Zimbler into the McDonald’s parking lot. While Sergeant Zimbler was advising Sheriff’s dispatch of his location, the driver stated, “Sir, we’re at Wendy’s.”

Sergeant Zimbler interviewed the driver and observed his eyes were bloodshot, movements were unsteady, and he had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The driver admitted to having consumed alcohol and performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. He was arrested and consented to a chemical test of his breath which resulted in a blood alcohol content of .16.

Vincent Rudolf was arraigned at 1st District Court in Central Islip on March 5, 2015 and remanded to the custody of the Sheriff with a bail of $1,000.
