Public Health Hotline Notification

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services has relocated its administrative offices to Great River. Due to technical difficulties, the public health hotline is not working. Beginning this evening, August 30, 2012, and continuing through to Tuesday, September 4, 2012, residents wishing to call the public health hotline may call 631-852-4820.

Seventeen Additional Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Hauppauge, NY – Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) Commissioner James L. Tomarken announced that 29 additional mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The mosquito samples, collected between August 20-23, were from locations in Nesconset (2), Farmingville, West Babylon (2), Huntington Station, Northport, Greenlawn, Dix Hills, Bay Shore, Lindenhurst, Jamesport, Aquebogue, Port Jefferson Station, Ridge, East Setauket and Yaphank.  To date this year, 192 mosquito samples and twenty-nine birds have tested positive for the virus.
