An Invitation to an Evening of Enlightenment on Ovarian Health

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services invites you to participate in a conversation about ovarian health on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 6:30 p.m.- 8 p.m., at the Tri Community and Youth Agency, located at 809 New York Ave. Huntington, NY.

Ovarian Cancer is a silent killer. According to the American Cancer Society, 80% of women with ovarian cancer are diagnosed after it has already spread to other parts of the body. African American women are more likely to die of ovarian cancer than their white counterparts.

“There is currently no reliable early detection test for ovarian cancer, and though women who have ovarian cancer may have symptoms, they are often very subtle and can be mistaken for other, more common problems,” said Suffolk County Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott. “This is why it is important for women to learn what to look for and how to advocate for themselves in medical settings.”

The event will feature: Dr. Camile Gooden, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, Physician Advisor, Long Island Community Hospital at NYU Langone Health, who will share tips on how to advocate for yourself in healthcare, Stefanie Taylor, Regional Manager of NOCC, who will discuss the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer, Diane Delliliune BSN, RN-BC, CCRC, of Northwell Cancer Institute, who will address clinical trials and 3 powerful testimonials from women diagnosed with ovarian cancer at different stages of their life. Refreshments will be served.
