Breastfeeding Support & Awareness Celebration
In celebration of World Breast Feeding Week (August 1 – August 7) Suffolk County invites expecting mothers, new mothers, and their families to join us for a morning of comradery and support of breastfeeding. This event offers a unique opportunity for families to create a strong support system and to learn from and support one another along their journey. In addition to fun at the beach, there will be food, games, activities, face painting and prizes. No parking fee or proof of residency will be required to attend the event.

Smart Start Suffolk Circle Time Event
The Suffolk County Office of Health Services invites parents with children from birth ages to five years old to Wyandanch Library to play and read with their child. This program is a collaboration of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services’ Office of Minority Health, Smart Start Suffolk, and the Wyandanch Library offering encouragement for parents to read and bond with their children all while having health snacks.

Education Event of Ovarian Cancer in Multicultural Communities
The Suffolk County Office of Minority Health invites women patients with ovarian cancer, their loved ones, and the curious to participate in a meeting that will provide information that could save your or a loved one’s life. Learn to identify the signs of symptoms of ovarian cancer, to know the urgency, and to know how to catch the signs before it’s too late! We hope you will bring this information back to your community. (Refreshments will be provided).

Diabetes Prevention Program—Free Informational Sessions
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services offers free Diabetes Prevention classes to all Suffolk County residents at risk of diabetes 2. The evidence-based Diabetes Program (DPP) has proven to reduce the risk of diabetes in participants by 58% or more. The program is led by a trained Lifestyle Coach and meets one hour per week for 16 weeks, followed by at least six-monthly follow-up sessions.
These sessions cover healthy eating, physical activity, and lifestyle changes to help participants achieve the goals that lead to the prevention or delay of a diabetes diagnosis. Attend one of our free informational sessions listed below to get an in-person chance to discover more information on how this program could benefit you.

Smoking Cessation Program
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services offers Smoking Cessation Programs to residents who wish to break their addiction to nicotine. The programs provide behavior modification and supportive pharmaceuticals to medically eligible participants. All cessation groups and programs are supervised by a nurse practitioner and services are provided to residents at no cost. Program participants also receive personalized follow-up. Join the program and discover the benefits of a tobacco-free lifestyle. Class sessions for this month are listed below.
