Bellone Creates Jewish American Advisory Committee

Hauppauge, NY-May 6, 2013)  County Executive Bellone has created the Jewish-American Advisory Committee with the purpose to discuss issues of importance and relevance to the Long Island Jewish community and to make recommendations regarding proposed legislation to the Suffolk County Legislature in connection with the following:

·         to advocate on behalf of the Jewish-American community in Suffolk County;

·         to encourage civic participation at all levels by members of the Jewish community;

·         to promote Jewish-American business development and to provide information necessary for Jewish-American businesses to enable them to have equal access and opportunity to contracting and procurement in Suffolk County; and

·         to improve cultural understanding between the Jewish community, Suffolk County government, and Suffolk County residents;

This mission is to be accomplished through educational programs, conferences, committees, projects, and programs

“We are fortunate to live in a County that has diverse populations which allow us insight into particular cultures and ethnicities,” said County Executive Bellone.  “I believe that it is this diversity that makes Suffolk County a desirable place to live and thrive and the creation of advisory committees like these only help to ensure Long Island is a great place to reside.”

The Committee will consist of 13 members inclusive of the Director of the Office of Minority Affairs, a County Executive designee and 11 members representing various Jewish organizations throughout the County.
