County Executive Bellone, Legislators Gregory and Cilmi Applaud Creation of one of the State’s First Land Banks to Remediate Brownfields

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Majority Leader DuWayne Gregory (D-Amityville) and 10th District Legislator Tom Cilmi (R-Bay Shore) applauded the creation of a Suffolk County Land Bank. The measure is designed to take advantage of a new state law and allow Suffolk County to remediate and return to the tax rolls abandoned and contaminated brownfield properties.   The Legislature unanimously supported creating the Land Bank.

Meeting of Suffolk County Pesticide Community Advisory Committee

The Pesticide Advisory Committee was established through Local Law 34-1999, which was enacted for the purpose of phasing out the use of pesticides by the County for many pest control purposes.

Suffolk County Offers Spanish Language Conference on Cancer Prevention

Riverhead, NY—The Suffolk County Department of Health Services’ Office of Minority Health will host a conference about cancer prevention, early detection of cancer, resource availability, treatments and the importance of healthy, balanced nutrition. The conference, entitled “Step by Step…Let’s Achieve Good Health” or “Paso a Paso…Alcanzaremos Una Buena Salud,” is free and targeted to Suffolk County residents whose first language is Spanish. Peconic Bay Medical Center will provide dinner and prizes.
