The mission of the division of Community Mental Hygiene Services is to enable persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance abuse and their families to access an appropriate array of services and supports to maximize an individual’s potential within the family and community.

December 1, 2013, marks the 25^th annual observance of World AIDS Day. The Suffolk County Department of Health Services and its community partners encourage residents to do what they can next week to stop the spread of HIV, whether it is by getting tested, participating in outreach and educational events or donating to help find a cure. James Tomarken, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, announced today that the Department of Health Services will hold its falls prevention workshops for mature residents in the communities of Hauppauge, Mount Sinai and Bellport.

The Board of Review hears requests for variances and waivers to the county’s requirements for water and sewage disposal for new construction, and for storage of toxic or hazardous materials, as stated in the Suffolk County Sanitary Code.
