The Suffolk County Leaders in Training Program provides college students with real world experience in public service. An internship with Suffolk County provides a valuable opportunity to view the inner workings of County government as well as the ability to gain professional-level public sector experience.

Qualifications/Area of study
The Suffolk County Leaders in Training Program is open to residents of both Suffolk and Nassau Counties. We encourage students of all areas of study to apply; our program has included students with a focus in Business Management, Media Relations, Finance, Sociology, Political Science, Biology, and more.
The county has various internship programs, and depending on the type, some are paid and some are unpaid opportunities.

The Water Quality Improvement Unit administers several diverse programs with a purpose to protect,
restore, and improve Suffolk County’s ground and surface waters. Work scope items include, but are not
limited to, providing support in the administrative functions of the Water Quality Protection and
Restoration Grant Program (WQPRP), the Aquaculture Lease Program (ALP), the Fertilizer Reduction
Program, and Cornell Cooperative Extension Program Management.
Candidates should be available for 2-
5 days per week, Monday-Friday.
