Lake Ronkonkoma Beach Closes to Bathing

Dr. James Tomarken, Commissioner of Health Services, announced today that Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in the Town of Islip is closed to bathing due to excessive levels of Cyanobacteria (Blue-Green Algae).

Twenty One Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Commissioner James Tomarken announced today that 29 mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The mosquito samples, all Culex pipiens-restuans, were collected on August 6th and August 7th, 2013, from areas in Huntington (1), Greenlawn (1), East Northport (2), Northport (2), Copiague (1), Lindenhurst (1), West Babylon (3), Nesconset (3), Bay Shore (1), East Islip (1), Port Jefferson Station (1), Selden (2), Farmingville (1), and Yaphank (1).
